About Whitebox
At the beginning of 2025, we attempted to find an indoor camera to monitor a new puppy and was disappointed by the options. Basic features frequently came at the cost of others, privacy concerns were widespread, self-hosting and user autonomy was rare, and long-standing user feedback continued to be ignored by companies.
So, we created Sudo.
Sudo includes all the essential features you’d expect, is open source, supports right to repair, and is self-hostable. With your support, we’re working to deliver Sudo and other IoT devices as soon as possible. Along side our devices, we aim to be transparent, community-driven, and attentive. We have ambitious plans to expand our system and improve the future of private home automation, and would love if you joined us.

When will I be able to buy this?
The cameras are currently in development and will be available for purchase in the near future. We are working hard to launch a beta test and send out cameras to real users to collect feedback. Please join our discord server if you are interested.

Will there be a subscription fee?
No, we will not require a subscription fee to use the core features of the camera. All subscription features will be optional and have a self-hosted alternative.
How many cameras will be available?
We are starting off with an indoor tilt and pan camera. We will be releasing more cameras in the future, including outdoor cameras and other smart home devices.
